I would argue that's actually the worst way to experience a story. And not everyone is going to want to go through the earlier parts of this game multiple times just to get things right. In any event, right now you can't respec, you can just change your appearance if you're tired of staring at the avatar you started with. If you don't ever want to risk maybe ending up with an unbalanced character and having to play like that, then a beta of an open-ended game seems like kind of an odd choice to me.
Neither of those is hard, and you aren't telling other people what they can or can't do with the game *they* bought. If you don't want to play unbalanced, don't do that either.
Power-character design is potentially unbalancing.
If one of the available options feels weird to you, don't do that then.
You play the thing so it works for you, and I'll do the same, hey? absolute statements about what characters are supposed to be or not be.
